Good Charlotte - Like It's Her Birthday

Guitarist Billy Martin discussed his contribution to the song during an interview with Unrescuable Schizo: "I got to do a guitar solo in it. I've been pushing to do some guitar solos for years. I got to do a really cool one on that song so that was definitely a highlight for me. It's a fairly pop song for us. It's still rock, it's very guitar-heavy but it's sort of a real pop melody. By putting a big rock guitar solo in the middle of the song, it gives it a nice edge. I like that fine line between being a rock band and writing pop songs."

Fran Healy - Sing Me To Sleep

This bouncy tune is a track from Wreckorder, the debut solo album by Travis lead singer Fran Healy. The song is a duet with alternative country singer Neko Case. Healy explained to American songwriter how he hooked up with Case: "I met her at a gig in Berlin, which is where I live, and after the show I went and said 'thanks for the show, you're brilliant,' I found myself asking her if she would be interested in a duet with me. While I'm' in the midst of saying this, my brain is going, 'Why'd you say that?!? Don't ask her that!!'
And I found myself speaking before my brain would allow me. But she was really sweet. She said, 'What a great idea, I'd love to do that.' And then I realized I didn't have a song, so I had to go and write a song. So I went home and wrote this song, 'Sing Me To Sleep,' and then we went to Vermont, which is where she's based, and we set up a little portable studio, just a microphone and a laptop, and we opened Pro Tools. She sang like a bird. She's amazing. She's so gracious and she looked after us. We were very well looked after."

Metallica - Fade To Black

Metallica wrote this after their equipment was stolen in early '84 and they had to start all over again. More specifically, James Hetfield wrote the lyrics in response to one of his amps being stolen. Not only was this amp his favorite, but it was also the first amp he ever owned so it had a lot of sentimental value to him. The song is about losing everything and wondering if it is worth going on.

Metallica was playing this song at their 1992 concert in Montreal's Olympic Stadium when James Hetfield was burned badly by wayward stage pyrotechnics.

Metallica - Enter Sandman

After the US invaded Iraq in 2003, this was one of the songs they played over and over is sessions designed to break the will of Saddam Hussein's supporters. The US military also played children's songs at these sessions, including selections from Barney the dinosaur.

"The single, 'This,' was a song I never thought would be a single, but that just shows you the power of the fans because they were the ones requesting it, downloading it, and playing it for their friends. Cute Is What We Aim For is a pop punk band from Buffalo, New York. The band formed in 2005, and since have released two albums: The Same Old Blood Rush with a New Touch and Rotation. The band was previously signed with record label Fueled by Ramen for their two releases, but are currently unsigned.

Closure - Look Out Below

Closure is a former Canadian alternative rock band formed in 2002 in Vancouver and previously signed to TVT Records. The group disbanded in 2006 after being dropped from their label. Their lead singer, Brian Howes, has moved on to a successful and award winning producing career.

Caesars - Jerk It Out

This was the first hit for The Caesars, who are known as The Caesar's Palace in their native country of Sweden, and Twelve Caesars throughout the rest of Scandinavia. However due to copyrights from Caesars Palace Casino, they are known as The Caesars throughout the rest of the world.

According to the band, the title "Jerk It Out" means "to just let out some steam, freak out, let yourself go, get crazy, etc." The title has a double meaning, as it can easily be taken as being about masturbation.

Brad Paisley - She's Everything

The music and lyrics for this song were written by Wil Nance, for his wife, Holly. Brad re-wrote a small portion of the lyrics to personalize the song more closely to his own life. It is one of Paisley's three songs certified Platinum by the RIAA, the others being "Then" and "Whiskey Lullaby".

Brad Paisley - Mud On The Tires

This song reached number-one on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and peaked at number 30 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2004.


The music video features Brad performing the song live at an event called Mudstock while people party and watch from a very muddy terrain. Also during the video, two women argue about whether Brad “plays great” or “looks better” and end up fighting in the mud (parodying a Miller Lite commercial) as Brad and Little Jimmy Dickens watch the commercial and admit they will buy whatever the commercial is selling.

I Hate Kate - I'm In Love With A Sociopath

I Hate Kate was founded in November 2004 by former Zebrahead frontman Justin Mauriello. 
In June 2010, a woman named Kate, after whom the band was named, left frontman Justin Mauriello an angry voicemail about the use of her name for the band and threatening legal action. The band felt it was in their best interest to change their name to Darling Thieves, under which name the new album was released on June 17, 2010.

Doves - There Goes The Fear

In the UK this song was released as a cheap limited edition single featuring just this song, retailing at 99 pence. It was deleted after its first day on sale hence its high chart entry and rapid fall (in its second week it tumbled 31 places to #34). 

When asked in a 2010 interview with Under the Radar as to why the single was released and deleted on the same day, Jez Williams stated, "It was to do something different from the norm. Just wanted to try something different really. I can't remember exactly whose idea it was. It might have been the manager's, but we were kind of into it. A kind of statement, in a way. We liked the fact that you could only get a hold of a certain amount of this or a certain amount of that. Especially in this day and age of readily available bits of music, it's kind of nice: a physical copy that's precious to you because you managed to get to the shop that day and actually own that."

Chris Cagle - What Kinda Gone

Having reached a peak position of number 3 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts in April 2008, this song became Cagle's first Top 5 single since 2003's "Chicks Dig It", and his eleventh chart single overall. 
Kevin John Coyne of Country Universe gave the song a B+ grade saying that song is "packed with personality" and that he was "smiling from the first verse".

Bruce Springsteen - Because The Night

Springsteen gave this song to Patti Smith in 1976 because he thought it would suit her voice. He was also in a legal battle with his manager, Mike Appel, that kept Bruce from recording for almost three years. It became the only hit for Patti Smith.

When Springsteen gave this to Patti Smith, He had the music and the chorus written, but not the verses. She wrote the words in one night.

Smith's version made the song more of a passionate lust story, which the pre-chorus of "Touch me now" at the end of the song. When Springsteen performed the song, his lyrics were more comforting to the girl, as he took the persona of a working man ("I work all day out in the hot sun") tempering her fears with his love, telling her, "They can't hurt you now." The different versions provide an interesting contrast, as they show the perspectives of each side of the couple depicted in the song.

 

 

Bruce Springsteen - Racing In The Street

This is one of many early Springsteen songs featuring cars - in this case a Chevy. Some others were "Thunder Road," "Backstreets," and "Pink Cadillac."

Bruce explained to Rolling Stone in 2010: "When you pick a song title like 'Racing In The Street,' that's a hard song to write. But that was sort of the local culture of Asbury in the '70s, which was still deeply enmeshed in car culture. If you went to the Stone Pony, it was a constant circle of souped-up muscle cars on Saturday and Sunday. Once again, I sort of stood outside of it, I was hitchhiking, I didn't have a car! But I wanted one real bad."

Bon Jovi - Runaway

In a 1986 interview with Spin magazine, Jon Bon Jovi had some harsh words for this video. He said: "I hate videos. If you wanted to torture me you'd tie me down and force me to watch our first five videos. Five times you're chump before you learn what you're doing. The first time we'd just made a record and we were all excited and some a--hole decides we're going to make a video for 'Runaway.' So instead of making it about what the song's about, he decides to put a concept to it with his little niece in it. It's the worst piece of s--t I ever saw in my life. There's a girl with like fire coming out of her eyes. They dressed the band. Richie's wearing a jumpsuit and shoes that are three sizes too big. They kept squirting us down with this greasy solution to make it look like we were sweating. We all look like assholes."

Alvin és a Mókusok (‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’) is a hungarian soft-punk/punk-rock/ska-band, formed in 1993. Their first record, “Jézusnak volt-e szakálla?”(‘Did Jesus Have a Beard?’) was released on tape in 1995.Since that they have made 9 studio albums, 2 cover albums (with hungarian classic songs) and two best of albums. Most of their songs are well-known classics about common situations. They are mostly listened to by teenagers, but since they are quite popular in Hungary, they’ve got a lot of older fans, too. The fan favourite song is “Kurva Élet” ('Fucked Up Life'), played as the last song on every concert. Enjoy. :)

Alen Ant Farm - Movies

There were three music videos made for this single, one, which was shot before the success of "Smooth Criminal" features a 'behind the scenes' style shooting of the video, with grips and lighting crew interrupting shots to fix equipment, while the band performs before a tacky Hollywood Hill backdrop.
The second video revolves around their playing at a house party, and the imagined events after they each pick up a different girl at the party.
There is a bigger budget re-shoot music video (you can watch it below), released after the success of "Smooth Criminal", which shows the band jumping through the screen at a movie theatre, and interacting with the audience in homages to Ghostbusters, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, The Karate Kid (including an appearance by the film's costar Pat Morita) and Edward Scissorhands. At the end of the video, the entire audience jumps through the screen and joins the band.

Lionel Richie - Hello

This song has one of the creepiest music videos ever... :)

The song was promoted with a much derided video which included dialogue. Lionel Richie plays a teacher, Mr. Reynolds, who falls in love with a blind pottery student, Laura. When he looks in at her class, he finds that she has made a perfect clay model of his head During the making of the video, Richie protested to the director Bob Giraldi that the story about the blind woman had no relationship to the song. Giraldi replied to him, "You're not creating the story, I am."

The video was voted the worst music video of all time in a poll of 8,000 music fans by UK TV music channel The Box, but Giraldi, who also directed Michael Jackson's "Beat It," stands by it. He's quoted in the book I Want My MTV as saying, "I came up with the idea of a blind girl and Lionel as a teacher. 'Hello' is one of the top videos ever." Giraldi adds that Richie was concerned that the bust didn't look like him, until Giraldi pointed out that the girl making it was supposed to be blind.

Skillet - Awake And Alive

Frontman John Cooper explained: "Tying in with 'Hero,' here's one about feeling like you're falling under from all the stresses of life. Even though you feel like everyone around you is trying to take your hope away from you, no one has the right to do that and you shouldn't allow those negative influences to weigh you down. Live what you believe and don't be afraid to stand up for your faith."

Switchfoot - The Sound (John M Perkins' Blues)

This song references American civil rights activist John M. Perkins. Jon Foreman told NewReleaseTuesday: "Lyrically, I feel like this song is a corollary of Hello Hurricane. I was reading a book at the time, Let Justice Roll Down - it's the autobiography of John Perkins, given to me by a friend of mine. I was struck by Perkins' honesty and humility. He describes the Jim Crow world of not so very long ago with brutal honesty. We are a haunted nation. Whether we admit it or not, the past runs through our veins. Listen to the streets, they'll tell you the same. We can cover up our racism and narrow-minded bigotry with excuses and time but the sins of the past cry out from the ground. Vampire Weekend - Holiday

Koenig explained the song meaning to the NME: "It's about a member of my family who gave up meat when we invaded Iraq. They were horrified by what was happening and they lost their taste for meat. It wasn't even an overt protest, it was a physical reaction."

 

The song's music video was directed by The Malloys, who also were responsible for "Giving Up The Gun." It features the band dressed up as Aristocrats from a few centuries ago participating in modern day activities. Koenig told the The NME May 29, 2010 about the clip: "I wrote a very vague idea, which I gave to the Malloy Brothers, it just said, 'Four knuckleheads with powdered wigs running around LA!' The Malloys can get a crazy idea like that and turn it into a video."
He added that the video, "was filmed on our day off before playing Coachella. It was this really hot and sunny day and we spent it all dressed up!"

 

 

Bon Jovi - You Give Love A Bad Name

Jon Bon Jovi, Desmond Child and Richie Sambora wrote this in the basement of Sambora's mother's house in New Jersey. Child came up with the title, and Jon immediately thought up the first line ("Shot through the heart..."). From there, they put the rest of the song together, with "Shot Through The Heart" as the working title. The song ended up being about a guy whose girlfriend is really bad for him - common material, but a very interesting way to say it. Jon Bon Jovi dated actress Diane Lane in the mid-'80s, and there were rumors that she was the inspiration for this song, but the lyrical inspiration was more of a universal feeling.

Lifehouse - All In

This is the second single from American alternative rock band Lifehouse's fifth studio album, Smoke and Mirrors. The song's narrator has reconciled with his girl after a break in their relationship. He realizes that he needs her and vows that they are not going to split up again - this time he's "all in for life."

 

Lifehouse bass player Bryce Soderberg told About.com: "'All In' was the last song that was written for the record. Funny enough it wound up being the first song on the record. It was the puzzle piece that was missing on this album to kick it off and kind of show people, 'Whoa, this is Lifehouse and they're back.' That song kind of hits you in the face."

 

 

OK Go - This Too Shall Pass

This is the third single from American rock band OK Go's third studio album, Of the Blue Colour of the Sky.

 

The band recorded a video for this anthemic song with the Notre Dame marching band. Frontman Damian Kulash told Spin magazine: "That was a hell of a lot of fun. There were 200 kids from the marching band and local elementary schools making it with us. That was a real high."

 

A second video was filmed (which is linked below), for which the band spent six months designing, building and implementing a two-story-tall Rube Goldberg mechanical device with the help of Syyn Labs, a Los Angeles-based arts and technology collective. The contraption they developed triggers a series of complex reactions all in time to the upbeat tune. Frontman Damian Kulash told MTV News: "Our band has always had a running list of things we'd like to do if somebody gave us the time or the money, and the Rube Goldberg machine has been on there for a long time. The barrier to entry with it is that you have to be a little crazy, you have to have a lot of time, and you have to be really, really patient. Of course, we had a lot of help. The people we were working with, they have day jobs at the jet-propulsion labs. They built the Mars Rover. They know how to make a set of dominoes fall over. I don't think any of us anticipated how much work it would be."

Starsailor - Tell Me It's Not Over

This song was written by the band in 2007 and initially they considered titling it "Lights Out."

In a posting on the Starsailor message board, singer James Walsh described this tune as having "a massive drum beat, reminiscent of Doves and U2."

Starsailor performed this for the first time in June 2007 at the Music in my Head Festival at Paard van Troje, Den Haag in Holland.

Lyrically, the track refers to the ending of a relationship because of infidelity.

Santana - While My Guitar Gently Weeps

This song was originally written by George Harrison, first recorded by the Beatles in 1968 for their eponymous double album (also known as The White Album).
Inspiration for the song came to Harrison when reading the I Ching, which, as Harrison put it, "seemed to me to be based on the Eastern concept that everything is relative to everything else... opposed to the Western view that things are merely coincidental.^" Taking this idea of relativism to his parents’ home in northern England, Harrison committed to write a song based on the first words he saw upon opening a random book. Those words were “gently weeps”, and he immediately began writing the song.

Reamonn - Josephine

In order to secure a recording contract, they set up a showcase at Logo, a small club in Hamburg, in front of 16 representatives from various record labels in 1999. The band was quickly offered several contracts, settling on signing with Virgin Records Germany. As of 2006 they are now releasing their music through Universal Music.

Josephine is a hit single from their debut album Tuseday.

Reamonn - Moments Like This

In 1997, Rea Garvey left his band The Reckless Pedestrians and home town of Tralee, Ireland to go to Germany with not a lot of money and a demo CD in his pocket. He put an ad into local paper Stockacher Anzeiger stating, "Singer requires band for recording and live shows". Mike Gommeringer (Gomezz) saw this ad and accurately assumed it must have been Garvey, whose original band he had once seen play live. The twosome met up and subsequently recruited Uwe, Sebi and Phil. Their first gig was played on New Year's Eve 1998 in Stockach. "Reamonn" is the Irish for "Raymond".

Queen - A Kind Of Magic

Roger Taylor wrote the melody and chords of this song for the Highlander film, then Freddie Mercury wrote a new bass line, added some instrumental spacers, changed the order and produced a new mix with David Richards. Taylor was reportedly very annoyed that Mercury had almost completely re-written the song behind his back (reportedly whilst he was on holiday!), so perhaps that explains why the song was still credited only to Taylor. Roger's version is at the end of the film; Freddie's version is on the album. 

"Weird Al" Yankovic - Amish Paradise

Another Weird Al parody for Sunday. :)

This is a song about the Amish, a Christian religious group who don't believe in any form of violence, profanity, or electricity. This song is a parody of Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio

In Pullman, Washington, an older listener to the local radio station contacted the station manager complaining that the song was insulting and if it was not pulled, she would stop listening and would tell her friends to stop as well. Apparently, her argument was, "What if an Amish person were to hear this song? They would be quite offended!"

 

 

"Weird Al" Yankovic - Eat It

I was pretty busy in the past two weeks, but I'm back with some fun. :)

On BBC 3's 100 Most Annoying Songs, Weird Al Yankovic said: "I was very surprised to get permission from Michael Jackson, this is 1984 when I did 'Eat It,' when Michael was the king of Pop. We sent him a request, can we do a parody of your song and call it 'Eat It?' We thought we'd never hear back, it took a few weeks but we heard back and he said 'yeah that's fine.'"

In an interview with the Metro newspaper August 1, 2003 Yankovic added: "He was the first megastar to give his blessing. When he let me do 'Eat It,' it raised the bar. I could then phone people who said 'no' and say: 'Well, Michael Jackson doesn't have a problem.'"

One Night Only - Say You Don't Want it

The song's music video features actress Emma Watson. Lead singer George Craig told The News of the World that he got to know the Harry Potter star after they both featured in a Burberry modeling campaign. He explained: "We became really great mates and she asked to be in the video. She wants to be a rock chick after ten years of Harry Potter."

Vampire Weekend - White Sky

Frontman Ezra Koenig explained in track-by-track production notes: "It's inspired by some of the same African vibes and rhythms that influenced the debut, but the finished product represents a new chapter in the band's sound. "This song picks up where M79 left off. Similar people, similar geography, but, I think, a more developed sense of purpose."

Lifehouse - You And Me

Lead singer Jason Wade wrote this when he was young. Originally titled "You And Me And All Of The People," this song was revived and renamed to the shorter "You and Me." It was the first single from Lifehouse's third album.

Pearl Jam - Just Breathe

Vedder (the singer of the band) described this song to the Canadian radio station The Edge as "as close to a love song as we've ever gotten." He added to the Toronto Globe and Mail: "There's never a dull moment on the road – every day it's something. Maybe that's why my goal is the dull moment. That's what this song is: It's saying, 'Just stop, and be together. Don't talk now, just breathe and feel each other's presence – now that the kids are in bed.'"

Julian Casablancas - Out Of The Blue

On this track Casablancas maps out his emotions. He sings of "hopefulness turning into sadness turning into bitterness turning into anger, and then anger into vengeance." The Guardian November 28, 2009 asked him if the song reflected his feelings about The Strokes. He replied: "It's about situations where you think nothing good will come, you feel stuck in a bad place, but I don't want to say it's about anyone in particular… why, what would you like me to say?" The interviewer pressed Casablancas if it was "a seething rant about hating the Strokes?" He responded: "I have to go play music with them next week. It'd be like, 'Hey! So you hate me?' But the whole point of that song is that those feelings are useless; they just turn pain on to yourself."

Krezip - All My Life

Krezip was a Dutch band from Tilburg, formed in 1997. It was notable for the band members' young ages during their original breakthrough. The band has had several successful albums and singles in the Benelux countries (Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands). The origin of their name remains unclear, though a popular explanation is that the name is an anagram of "perzik", the Dutch word for "peach".

Jimmy Eat World - My Best Theory

This is the lead single from Jimmy Eat World's seventh studio album "Invented". The single was digitally released and began receiving radio airplay on August 10, 2010. It was the American alternative rock band's first release for three years and at the beginning of this track, lead singer Jim Adkins sums up their hiatus proclaiming, "It's been a long time."

Ihász Gábor - Múlnak a gyermekévek

Another hungarian piece. Gábor Ihász was a very influential songwriter in the '70s and '80s, writing songs for a lot of pop icons. He also released two albums himself, and this is one of his biggest hits. This song is about the childhood years passing, where you can never return. This is a very sentimental one. :)

Hoobastank - Crawling In The Dark

"Crawling in the Dark" is a song by Hoobastank, released as the first single from their major-label debut, Hoobastank.
The song was released as a single on April 1st, 2002. The song was their breakthrough hit and is their second most successful song from the album Hoobastank behind their second hit Running Away. It reached #3 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart and #7 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

The Goo Goo Dolls - Home

The Goo Goo Dolls are an American rock band formed in 1986 in Buffalo, New York, by guitarist and vocalist John Rzeznik, bassist and vocalist Robby Takac and drummer George Tutuska.
Although renowned for their commercially successful 1998 single "Iris", they have had several other notable and popular singles including "Name" from 1995's A Boy Named Goo, "Broadway", "Black Balloon" and "Slide" from 1998's Dizzy Up The Girl, an album which produced five successful singles, and "Here Is Gone", "Sympathy" and "Big Machine" from 2002's Gutterflower. 

"Home" is the lead single from their ninth studio album, Something for the Rest of Us, which was released on August 31, 2010.

Breaking Benjamin - Give Me A Sign

The song's hospital-set music video was directed by Nigel Dick and features artwork from Breaking Benjamin's four albums. A picture of the cover art from Saturate is hanging up in the child's room, the old man has the Breaking Benjamin tattoo on his finger from the cover of We Are Not Alone, a visitor whose face can't be seen is the cover from Phobia and the woman's room features the MRI scan of singer Ben Burnley's head from the cover of Dear Agony.
Prior to the video's debut, Burnley had commented that he hoped fans would "recognize and be excited by the inclusion of certain key characters from the band's past". The woman in the hospital bed is Jane from the clip for "The Diary of Jane" and the faceless visitor is the "Evil Angel" from the song of the same name.

“Stricken” is the ninth single by American heavy metal band Disturbed, released on October 4, 2005. It is the second single released from their third studio album Ten Thousand Fists, but was the first official single from the album. It is also Disturbed’s second single to be certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The song was the theme song for WWE New Year’s Revolution 2006, and is also playable on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, and is available as a downloadable track for the Rock Band series of games. It is featured in Project Gotham Racing 4. The music video for the song was filmed in an abandoned hospital in which a scene from A Nightmare on Elm Street was taken. 

Counting Crows feat. Vanessa Carlton - Big Yellow Taxi

"Big Yellow Taxi" is a song written and originally recorded by Joni Mitchell in 1970, Counting Crows made their cover in the early 2000's. This is the most successful cover of the original song.

Mitchell said this about writing the song to journalist Alan McDougall in the early 1970s:
"I wrote 'Big Yellow Taxi' on my first trip to Hawaii. "A Thousand Faces" is the third single from the American post-grunge band Creed's fourth album Full Circle. It is the third track on the album. "A Thousand Faces" was released as a single on March 29, 2010. It had, however, garnered radio airplay several weeks before its release.

Collective Soul - Hollywood

“Hollywood” is the first single from Collective Soul’s seventh studio album Afterwords, written by Joel Kosche and Ed Roland. It is co-produced by Anthony J. Resta and was mixed at Studio Bopnique Musique in Boston MA.
The song was used as the theme song for the seventh season of American Idol.

Buckcherry - All Night Long

Josh Todd - the singer - explained the song on the band's website: "'All Night Long' is about what happens when Buckcherry comes to your town. We get on stage and we host a party. That is what the song is about... it's about the energy we like to have between the fans and us. We've been on the road with a lot of our heroes like Aerosmith, AC/DC and Kiss. And one thing we understand from being out on the road with these legends is they have giant rock and roll anthems, arena-rock sized songs that are just energetic and fun. We've written a few like 'Lit Up' and 'Crazy Bitch' but we wanted more. We wanted a song that just captured what it feels like to go to a Buckcherry concert."

Brandon Flowers - Crossfire

The music video premiered on July 8, 2010 on VEVO. It was directed by Australian film director Nash Edgerton and stars actress Charlize Theron. The video features various scenes involving Flowers being tied up as a hostage. Theron kills several ninjas before rescuing him each time. The final scene shows Theron putting her arm around Flowers, while driving away with him in a pick-up truck.

In an interview with Fuse, Flowers revealed that Theron was a fan of The Killers, and that she was interested in being a part of the video. She also led him to Edgerton, who was ultimately chosen to direct the video.

Raymond Lefevre - Le Marche Des Gendarmes

I loved the movies of Louis de Funés when I was a child, and I still find them funny, although not as funny as 20 years ago. This is the theme song of his most famous series, the Gendarme movies. Enjoy. :)

Bad Religion - Won't Somebody

Bad Religion is a punk-rock band and was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1979 by high school students Greg Graffin (vocals) and Brett Gurewitz (guitar). The band considers their first show to be a gig in 1980 when they opened for Social Distortion in an empty warehouse.
They were very popular in the '90s, and they are still active nowadays, making great songs.

 

Zorall - Postakocsi

A hungarian song for the new year. Zorall is a band formed of members of multiple famous hungarian rock bands, this is their secondary act. They make rock covers of hungarian pop hits from the '60s, '70s, '80s. Have fun! :)

Nickelback - Shakin' Hands

I love how Nickelback can make a song very dirty, but still no explicit lyrics in them. This is a great example.

This song charted at #49 on the Canadian Hot 100 before eventually being released as a single. It has since re-entered at #92 The song charted at #11 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks and #24 on Billboard's Rock Songs.

Scissor Sisters - Fire With Fire

Guitarist Del Marquis discussed the song's music video with Digital Spy: "We wanted to make a video where we claimed the streets as our own because we'd never really done that before. You know, we've never had as much fun shooting a video. We rode around on the back of that truck for about six hours beginning at 11pm at night. There were drunk people yelling at us, people looking sheepish because they were taking home one night stands and people puking on street corners. It was a real good time, shooting that video!"

Gogol Bordello - Immigraniada (We Comin' Rougher)

Gogol Bordello is a Gypsy punk band from the Lower East Side of Manhattan, formed in 1999 and known for theatrical stage shows and persistent touring
Much of the band's sound is inspired by Gypsy music. The band incorporates accordion and violin (and on some albums, saxophone) mixed with punk and dub.

Muse - Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)

In this song, Matt Bellamy, the singer, reflects on the true power of love. He explained on BBC Radio 1 that it was written after he broke-up with his long-term girlfriend at the end of 2009, and was based on his feelings at the beginning of their relationship.

The video first shows Matt Bellamy playing on his piano while red smoke rises from the background. When the first "love is forever" is uttered, the scene shifts to a scene from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
Muse are said to be Twilight author Stephanie Meyers' favorite band, and the English three-piece previously contributed their song "Supermassive Black Hole" to the soundtrack of Twilight, and a remix of "I Belong To You" appeared on the New Moon soundtrack in 2009.

 

Thirty Seconds To Mars - This Is War

Jared Leto, the singer of the band, told MTV News: "The song is really about conflict, and the album really is about it too: the inevitability of conflict, the blessing of conflict and what we can all learn from it. We've certainly had our fair share of it. So for the 'This Is War' video, we wanted to explore another side of it. So we decided to portray soldiers in conflict."

The music video was shot on April 7, 2010. A 30-second teaser was released and the music video was set to premiere in June 2010. However, it was delayed. The film features 30 Seconds to Mars as US Soldiers deployed to Afghanistan. The video was supposedly leaked on April 1, 2011. In response to the leak, the band stated that they would release the full length video soon. On April 6, 2011, nearly a year after the video was shot, it was finally released
 

Green Day - Last Of The American Girls

This song peaked at #26 on the US alternative rock charts.

The music video alternates between the band playing in a desert and the character Gloria (Lisa Stelly) who appears in the video for "21 Guns", and is also a protagonist in the story of the album 21st Century Breakdown. Gloria is shown taking part in everyday activities, such as brushing her teeth, watching television, and cleaning her nails.

Shinedown - The Crow & The Butterfly

Frontman Brent Smith explained on the radio interview program Rockline that while the band were writing the new album, he had a dream about a mother whose son passes away. He wrote the song about the mom dealing with the death of her child and trying to move on.

"The Crow & the Butterfly" peaked on the Billboard Rock Songs chart at #1. It was Shinedown's first single to rank at #1 on the Billboard Rock Songs chart.  

Tonic - Release Me

Tonic is an American rock band that has earned two Grammy nominations to date. The band was formed in 1993 by Emerson Hart and Jeff Russo. 
This song is the only single from their lastest, self-titled album.

The Push Stars made a lot of great songs in the early '00s.
This one is about being in love with somebody who loves somebody else. She lives the dream, but you are outside of it, just watch it happening, and hope that one day she will be yours.
